My Grandma's of New England® started an industry in 1990 with their original Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake - and with good reason. These decadent, dinner-worthy cakes are made from the finest and freshest ingredients available. The moistness and flavor of the cake are unmatched. All cakes are handmade and certified Kosher under Orthodox supervision.
And there really was a Grandma! My Grandma's of New England ® started baking coffee cakes in a modest 250 square foot bakery in a remote section of Newton, Massachusetts. Baking her famous Cinnamon Walnut coffee cake in her kitchen, Grandma's business grew steadily by word of mouth. Soon, customers were driving from locations as far away as one hour to buy one of her cakes that were still warm from the oven. Completely selling out was a daily occurrence. Around major holidays, word quickly spread that if you wanted a cake for your family to enjoy, you had to place your order at least one week in advance.
One year after purchasing the company, Bob Katz (seen above) moved us into a small former muffin bakery in Dedham. With leased equipment and a revolving oven that could bake 42 cakes in an hour, we started promoting our company nationally, and hiring additional bakers and shippers. Soon two Vice Presidents were added, Dave Goldbaum and Bruce Mills. Bob's dad joined us full time, as our VP of Finance, in 1994.
Demand for our cakes was at an all time high in 1996, and in 1997, we relocated to our current facility at 1636 Hyde Park Avenue, in the Hyde Park section of Boston. Business remains solid and demand for our quality product has never been higher.
We launched our first My Grandma's Website in early 1998. Please click here to see our original Website!
Today our line includes the New England Blueberry, Ted Williams Chocolate, Banana Walnut, Cape Cod Cranberry, Chocolate Chip, Red, White and Blue Patriot Cake, Pumpkin Spice, Lemon Poppy, and Pineapple Coconut flavors. Our special-order "lower fat" cakes (available in all flavors but the chocolate, pumpkin spice, and pineapple coconut) have become quite a popular line for My Grandma's. You just can't taste the difference! All cakes may also be special-ordered without walnuts.
Our cake is packed in a plastic freezer bag that preserves freshness whether fresh or frozen. Shelf life in the bag is 14 days when unrefrigerated and up to 12 months if frozen. Cakes are shipped via the United Parcel Service or UPS Sure Post to arrive at their destination within 4 business days of shipment.
